The Art of Repujado
Repujado (Spanish) or repousse (French) is an ancient art form dating from the Bronze Age ( 2800-1100 BC). It is a method of creating relief design by hammering, pressing, and embossing the reverse side of a metal surface.
Through the centuries this technique has been used to create architectural reliefs, vessels, armory, jewelry and much more. One of the largest and most famous examples of this art is the Statue of Liberty in New York harbor.
Each repujado is created from pure copper filled with a polymer, mounted on a sealed and varnished solid wood plaque, and ready for hanging.
This art is tough and enduring, but please do not display outside as the protective lacquer finish might eventually erode with weather exposure and tarnish the copper.
